Nova SBE Summer School

ProAction 2021 Edition: Climate Action

"We must step up with the will, the resources, and the coordination to achieve the Global Goals. Nova SBE's brand new ProAction Summer School will challenge corporate leaders, experts, and students to work together to become the architects of a sustainable future. Only a partnership of responsible corporate leadership and inspired future generations can accomplish the goals in time." – Daniel Traça, Dean of Nova SBE.

It is crunch time. Progress has been made but nowhere near enough to achieve the Global Goals. As the negative consequences of inaction become more visible and threaten our livelihoods each passing year, we need to turn the tide and show proaction.

We need to make a real difference, and you can be part of it. Join the 2021 Edition: Climate Action of our ProAction Summer School from 21 June 2021 until 2 July 2021 in Carcavelos, near Lisbon. You will be confronted with a Challenge that is daring but feasible and scalable. It won't be easily solved, but it has the potential of positively impacting the lives of the broader community. Your ideas and inspiration will be irreplaceable to find solutions that create a long-lasting impact. For this to happen, Challenge Owners will implement your idea in the real world and report on its implementation a year later at the Estoril Conferences in 2022. Together we can take action to combat climate change and its consequences.

The Challenges

The Global Goals are interconnected – often, the key to success to one of them will involve tackling issues more commonly associated with another. To ensure that the overarching Challenge of Climate Action is addressed through a holistic and systematic approach, our summer school is organized around three transversal themes. You will look at Climate Action either from a perspective of transforming cities, advancing green growth, or safeguarding our oceans.

While you will work on your selected stream, there will also be forms of interconnection, feedback, and shared visions.

Transforming Cities Challenge

Transforming Cities Challenge

Cities and metropolitan areas are powerhouses of economic growth, contributing about 60 % of global GDP. However, they also account for about 70 % of global carbon emissions and over 60 % of resource use. How can we make cities more sustainable?

Advancing Green Growth Challenge

Advancing Green Growth Challenge

How can we ensure economic growth and development while ensuring that natural assets continue to provide the resources and environmental services on which our well-being relies?

Safeguarding our Oceans Challenge

Safeguarding our Oceans Challenge

The ocean drives global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind. Careful management of this essential global resource is a key feature of a sustainable future. How can we protect our Oceans?

Challenge Owners

Our Challenge Owners will be multinational businesses, international NGOs, public authorities, or a consortium of Challenge Owners.

Stay tuned! Our Challenge Owners will be announced soon.

Our brand new campus provides everything you might need during your participation. You can find several facilities and services, such as a food court offering a wide variety of options, a healthcare provider, or a financial institution that aims to support you throughout your stay.

Right next to the ocean, our campus is home to 55 classrooms and 26 amphitheaters, so studying here, by the sea, is a unique experience.

The safety and well-being of the young talents joining our ProAction summer school are our highest priority. On our COVID-19 page, you can find all the information regarding our health and safety rules, how we support our community, and our efforts to continue our learning experience on our campus – a place to and for everyone, where everything happens, and where we will always ensure you feel at home.

At the moment, we are continuing to accept applications for our 2021 summer school. We understand that you might feel worried or anxious about whether you will travel and if the summer school can take place as planned. We accept that the situation is currently volatile and will continue to be so for some time. However, we are confident that our summer school can take place as planned with the rollout of vaccines.

We take your concerns seriously. For this reason, we will keep the early bird fee for all applicants who applied and were accepted to our summer school before March 31, 2021, until May 16, 2021. What does this mean? It means that you can save your vacancy now but only decide at a later stage if you would like to keep it and then proceed with the payment. Similarly, if you choose to pay now, we guarantee a full refund on fees or offer the opportunity to defer your spot.

Even if there are local or Portuguese government restrictions on travel after May 16, 2021, we can provide you a full refund on fees upon the presentation of documentation evidencing such proven measures and restrictions.

At any point, if you would like to discuss our safety rules on campus or our risk management approach, please feel free to reach out by emailing summer.school@novasbe.pt or giving us a call/sending us a WhatsApp at +00351915275911. We are here to help.
