Afonso Almeida Costa is an Assistant Professor at Nova SBE. He holds Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Management (Strategy) from INSEAD. He also holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Economics from Nova School of Business and Economics. Prior to turning to academia, Afonso worked for a short stint as an M&A analyst at Haitong Bank (formerly Espírito Santo Investment Bank).Afonso´s main research interests are at the intersection of corporate and competitive strategy. Namely, he is broadly interested in how corporate-level dimensions – such as resource allocation and development processes, innovation strategies, delegation, divisionalization, control systems, and managerial practices – affect the conduct and performance of firms in their competitive contexts. In addition, Afonso has a keen interest in the integration of established theories such as the resource-based view and the value-based perspective with product-market competition.
