Maria Eugénia Mata is Full Professor at the Faculdade de Economia of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Nova SBE, teaching Economic History, History of Globalization, and History of Economic Analysis.

Visiting scholar, Brown University, Rhode Island, 2000.  Alfred Chandler Jr. Scholar, at the Harvard Business School, 2007.  Oliveira Marques Prize, by the Association of Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies in 2010.

She is the author of many chapters in international books, and articles in scientific journals (Historical Social Research, Imprese e Storia, Business History, Journal of Transport History, Journal of Iberian and Latin American Economic History, The Journal of the History of Economic Thought, South African Journal of Economic History, Économies et Sociétés, Research in the History of Economic Thought and Methodology, Portuguese Studies Review, The Journal of European Economic History, among others).

Ex-President of the Portuguese Economic and Social History Association, she is the author or editor of some books. 

She has been awarded with Mulheres na Ciência (2017).(Women in Science) prize.
