Nova SBE published its Road to Impact Report that demonstrates the school’s contribution to the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by showcasing the activities developed by our community during the academic year of 2019/20. In this document, Nova SBE also presents its commitments to the Six PRME Principles (Principles for Responsible Management Education), of the leading business schools and academic institutions network.

To present the impact that Nova SBE’s entire activity and its community have on society’s sustainable development, the school mapped and identified how different projects and initiatives contribute to the SDGs. Simultaneously, the report intends to be an example that inspires a call to action so that other higher education institutions, governmental and non-governmental entities, and companies from all sectors and society in general to be part of this transformation movement intended to be sustainable, inclusive, and pacific.

Nova SBE’s Impact Report presents diverse programs, projects, and initiatives that allowed Nova SBe and its community in the 2019/20 academic year to answer some of the biggest challenges that we face nowadays and consolidate its journey to co-create a more collaborative, inclusive, and sustainable social and economic reality under the SDGs Agenda contribution and goals.

“Nova SBE is still aligned with the national and international pledges that made a mark on the last decade, namely the financing strategy for ADDIS ABEBA development, the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda, the Paris Agreement, the Portuguese Diversity Letter, the National Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality, the European Green Deal, and the European Circular Economy Action Plan. As the urgency for sustainable development grows higher, finding the role each one of us can play is fundamental.”, underlines Luís Veiga Martins, Associate Dean for Community Engagement & Sustainable Impact.

Nova SBE Indicators for SDG 4 – Quality Education               

In the 2019/20 Impact Report, aside from detailing all the academic and research programs and initiatives and the partnerships that contribute to the SDGs Agenda, Nova SBE presents, in an integrated and systematized way, the indicators that tackle the goals set for SDG 4 – Quality Education.

These indicators allow analyzing the impact and evolution of the school’s commitment to achieving the proposed goals with excellence.

Goal 4.3 | By 2030, ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable quality technical, vocational, and tertiary education, including university

  • A 26 % growth in new admissions in the 2020/21 academic year in comparison with 2018/19
  • From the new admissions’ total, there is a substantial growth in admitted women:  + 17 % in Bachelor’s, + 34 % in Master’s, and + 26 % in PhD
  • The enrollment of women in the 2020/21 academic year was at 49,68 % (Bachelor’s), 43,21 % (Master’s) e 47,22 % (PhD)
  • Investment in scholarships (21 programs)
  • B-learning design learning format with over three thousand Bachelor’s and Master’s for online classes
  • Six new online programs were developed for Executive Education
  • During the pandemic, eight training programs took place remotely while 23 programs were provided in a b-learning format, including post-graduation programs


Goal 4.4 | By 2030, substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship

  • 140 workshops and professional events with the participation of over 3500 students
  • Two career fairs with over 155 companies and a new startup area (with approximately 3400 students, 50 corporate students, and over 25 hybrid organizations)
  • Over 1500 new students registered in JobTeaser (Bachelor’s + Master’s)
  • 96 % of employability rate based on the 2019 Graduate Placement Survey
  • More than 250 international academic and corporate partnerships
  • Preparation of a new area of expertise - Hospitality & Tourism Management – as part of the Master’s in Management
  • Mentoring programs: 124 Alumni and 144 students
  • Launch of the Estágio Global internship
  • Launch of the Advancing your Career program
  • 11 PhD employment vacancies
  • Triple Crown Accreditation: EQUIS, AMBA, AACSB;
  • International networks: PRME, UNICON, GMAC, GBSN, CEMS, SDSN.


Goal 4.7 | By 2030, ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development

  • 8424 Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, and Executive Education students completed courses that were mapped under the SDGs Agenda to increase awareness of their importance
  • 162 programs were revised to explicitly indicate their coordination with the SDGs (without taking into account technical topics that develop basic skills)
  • 62,5 % of the 32 % accepted Master’s students chose as their favorite area of expertise Business and Data Analytics, Digital Business, Inovação e Empreendedorismo, Social Enterprise, Strategy and International Business
  • 35 students participated in consulting labs that were developed alongside partner organizations
  • 97 PhD students
  • Three new Master’s: Master’s in Business Analytics, which started in September 2020, and two other Master’s in International Development & Public Policy and Master's in Impact Entrepreneurship & Innovation, which were submitted for approval during the 2019/20 academic year and will start in September 2021
