The new students of the Master’s in Business Analysis, International Development & Public Policy, Economics, Impact Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Finance, and Management arrived at Nova SBE on August 29, at the start of Nova SBE's welcome week: Discovery Week.

For five days, the 1715 new students will have the opportunity to get to know and explore the Carcavelos Campus, the community, and its purpose, participating in numerous integration initiatives such as lectures, practical sessions, and activities related to their programs and the careers they intend to pursue. The last two days of the welcome week are dedicated to the Estoril Conferences, which this year will be held on September 1 and 2 at the Carcavelos Campus.

With an increase of around 25% in the number of applications compared to the previous year, the 1715 students enrolled in Nova SBE's Master's programs this academic year are mostly international (71%) and come from more than 60 nationalities, with Portugal, Germany, and Italy standing out as the countries with the highest representation.

With an ambitious scholarship program for the year 2023/24, Nova SBE, together with the support of partners, is awarding more than 300 scholarships to new Master's students, corresponding to around 1.5 million euros, an increase of 60% over the previous year's budget.

"I'm participating in the Discovery Week for the first time as the Dean of Nova SBE, and I couldn't be happier to welcome a record number of Master's students," says Pedro Oliveira, Dean of Nova SBE, adding, "This is also the year in which we offer more scholarships to support Master's students in financial need, totaling around 1.5 million euros, ensuring that no one is left out and is unable to study at Nova SBE due to financial difficulties." Pedro Oliveira added: "Our differentiated commitment to offering excellent services and teaching and research staff is proving to be a winner. We want to continue this path because this is the only way to be competitive in the global market and attract international talent. It is our role to contribute to the development of future leaders through innovative teaching methodologies, and the large number of international students who choose to learn with us is proof that we are on the right track. It is also our priority and responsibility to continue to build a school that is inclusive and accessible to all, contributing to social mobility, transforming students from different backgrounds into future leaders, and placing them in leadership positions in public and private organizations."

In recent years, Nova SBE has gained a prominent place on the international higher education scene, being one of the most prestigious European business schools, with the International Master's in Finance in 11th place and the International Master's in Management in 15th place in the Financial Times World Ranking.

Advocating that universities, in general, and business schools, in particular, must take the lead on the road to a different world - more sustainable, less polarized, and with more equity - Nova SBE sees itself as a community dedicated to the development of talent and knowledge that impacts the world, creating value for all. Its responsibility to preparefuture generations is reinforced by the rigor of the educational programs it offers, which, combined with the best that academia and companies offer, bring the school's research areas ever closer to the reality of business and societal challenges. "We want to increase access to education so that, through education, we can increase our country's competitiveness in the world," concludes Pedro Oliveira.
