Scholarships

Created in 2012 by three alumni, the beNOVA Scholarship wants to support bright students who need financial assistance so that they can pursue their studies and achieve their full potential. For this, students may receive support in the tuition fee value and coverage of their transportation and food expenses, depending on each student’s situation.

Since the beginning of the program in the 2012/2013 academic year, 147 students have benefitted from the beNOVA Scholarship.

Alongside our generous partners, we hope to create more opportunities for all those seeking quality education.

The Tiago Pires Scholarship was created in memory of Tiago Castanheira Pires (Bachelor's in Economics, 2002) in 2016 for his outstanding personal and academic achievements, aiming to recognize bright and entrepreneurial minds. In partnership with the Mais Longe Foundation, Nova SBE created the beNOVA Mais Longe Scholarship. The Mais Longe Foundation is dedicated to promoting education and sharing democratic and humanitarian values, thus facilitating access to education, and creating a fairer society.

Eligibility

All students of Portuguese nationality or of Portuguese-speaking African countries and who are enrolled in one of Nova SBE’s Bachelor’s programs are eligible to apply.

Application

To apply, candidates must submit the following documentation:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Proof of enrollment in one of Nova SBE’s Bachelor’s programs
  • Personal ID (Citizen card or legally equivalent)
  • Cover letter
  • Proof of economic situation, such as the most recent household tax return and other relevant documents regarding the family’s financial situation
  • Map of Credit Responsibilities (Mapa de Responsabilidades de Crédito - Banco de Portugal)
  • Candidates with a Portuguese nationality must show proof of application to the DGES Scholarship
  • Candidates from Portuguese-speaking African countries who received financial support from their government must show proof of the support received.


All candidates must state if they have applied for or are currently receiving financial support from other organizations.

  • Y1:  September 20 – October 6, 2024

The Santander Apoio Universitário Scholarships aim to promote equal opportunities in higher education. These scholarships are intended not only to improve academic performance, but also to open doors for students of different profiles. With a special focus on students with less financial support and students with disabilities, these scholarships are a catalyst for academic success.

Eligibility

Only students who are enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program and who live or hold a residence permit in Portugal (temporary or permanently) are eligible for this scholarship.

Application

Students must submit, in a single PDF file:

  • IRS Model 3, concerning the most recent fiscal year
  • Motivational letter stating the importance of this scholarship in your academic and personal journey
  • Proof of enrolment in one of Nova SBE’s Bachelor’s program
  • Proof of tax residency
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Multipurpose certificate (Certificado Multiusos), if applicable
  • Proof of secondary school attendance in Portuguese territory.
  • Any additional documentation that you believe to be relevant to demonstrate your household’s financial situation

Applications for the second edition of 2024 are open from September 18 to November 18, 2024

The Erasmus Santander Scholarships are meant for 2023/24 Bachelor’s and Master’s students who have been allocated to go abroad within the Erasmus + Program.
 

To ensure nothing gets in their way, Santander partnered with several universities, Nova SBE, to provide students with the financial aid of 500€ and 1000€ to allow them to go on Erasmus and follow their global aspirations.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program, according to the Erasmus+ program eligibility criteria
  • Have applied to an Erasmus+ program
  • Show proof of academic success in the previous academic year


Specific criteria

  • Proof of the household’s financial situation (IRS declaration): In order to be eligible for this scholarship, the per capita income of the household should be less or equal to 22 times to the IAS value, which, for the 2022/2023 academic year, is valued at 9653,82€
  • Motivation letter in which the candidate must state the importance of the Santander Erasmus Scholarship in their personal and professional journey.
  • Proof of the student’s household financial situation

Solidarity with Ukraine
Nova SBE dares to grow boldly by being a school where everyone can learn more, do good, and be better. That’s why it is committed to supporting all Ukrainians in continuing their studies by creating scholarships that can help them obtain the necessary know-how and foster their individual and collective potential.

The Nova SBE Yulia Tymoshenko Scholarship is the school’s meaningful way to celebrate the presence of Yulia Tymoshenko in the 2022 Estoril Conferences and a tribute to female candidates who, through their personal experiences, demonstrates a commitment to being the purpose generation.

Creating scholarships such as the Nova SBE Yulia Tymoshenko Scholarship is Nova SBE’s way of cultivating an open attitude that enhances diversity in all of its dimensions.

Nova SBE offers two scholarships to two female Ukrainian students living in Ukraine who are admitted to one of its Bachelor’s programs (Economics or Management).

Eligibility:
Each academic year, two scholarships are made available to deserving female Ukrainian students living in Ukraine who are admitted to one of Nova SBE Bachelor’s programs (Economics or Management). Candidates only need to check the admission criteria and apply.

Scholarship Amount:
The scholarships will cover the full tuition fee regarding the year the candidates are admitted, accommodation in one of NOVA University Lisbon’s student residences, and university meals.

The Gap Year Scholarship by Nova SBE is a product of the partnership between Nova SBE and Associação Gap Year Portugal (AGYP). It aims at financing a gap year, from six to ten months, for graduating students at Nova SBE who show a strong determination to carry it out. The goal of this scholarship is to contribute to the development of Nova SBE students by challenging them to take a break between the Bachelor's and Master’s degrees.

Value

The winners will be awarded gap year grants valued at 5000€ (five thousand euros) in the case of individual applications or 6500€ (six thousand five hundred euros) in the case of applications in pairs.

Eligibility

To apply, candidates must fulfil all the following requirements:

  • Be a Nova SBE Bachelor’s student
  • Having completed at least 135 ECTS at the end of the first semester of 2022/2023, and is in condition to graduate by the end of the Spring’ 23 semester, thus completing the Bachelor’s degree at Nova SBE in the first semester of 2022/2023

 

Applications

From March 14, 2023, to June 10, 2023.

Kearney allies with Nova SBE in implementing initiatives aimed at promoting access to high-quality education, reinforcing the commitment to educational development, and enabling high-potential students to focus on their academic and professional growth without financial obstacles.

Value

The scholarship covers the full tuition fee amount and also provides a contribution to cover cost of living expenses for 12 months.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must cumulatively meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Enrolled in the 1st year of the Bachelor's programs in Management or Economics at Nova SBE.
  • Registered in a minimum of 28 ECTS
  • Hold a Portuguese nationality or residency in Portugal for the last 3 years
  • Considered a displaced student, requiring residence near Nova SBE – this means that the distance between the location of regular residence and Nova SBE required the student to move to another locality in order to attend the curricular activities at Nova SBE
  • Annual gross per capita income within the eligibility tiers specified in the Regulation of the Access to Study Cycles Scholarship

To renew the scholarship, students must demonstrate a good academic performance by achieving a minimum of 52.5 ECTS and a cumulative GPA above 14 (on a scale of 0-20) in the previous academic year.

Application

The application for the Kearney Scholarship should be submitted by completing the application form, which will be shared with the students. The application must include, in a single PDF document:

  • Proof of enrollment in one of Nova SBE’s Bachelor’s programs
  • Citizen Card/ Passport
  • Proof of fiscal address
  • Documentation of economic situation, including proof of submission of IRS Model 3 from the previous fiscal year
  • Applicants eligible for scholarships from the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) must provide proof of their application


Deadlines 2023/24

Applications are open from January 10 to February 9, 2024.

The Rodrigo Guimarães Institute joins forces with Nova SBE to drive educational development in Portugal, supporting and promoting young individuals in the pursuit of their studies. Equipping students with the necessary means to pursue high-quality education and excellence, we encourage the perpetuation of the spirit of solidarity which is a fundamental goal of the Rodrigo Guimarães Institute.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must:

  • Be enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor's programs in Management or Economics at Nova SBE
  • Be registered in a minimum of 60 ECTS
  • Must have a GPA of access to Higher Education equal or above 15 values
  • Hold a Portuguese nationality or residency in Portugal for the last 3 years


Value

This scholarship covers 100 % of the tuition fee value and provides an allowance for cost of living. If the selected student is a displaced student, meaning that the distance between the location of regular residence and Nova SBE required the student to move to another locality in order to attend the curricular activities at Nova SBE, it is also possible to grant an allowance to help with the cost of residence, for a duration of 36 months.

The application for the Rodrigo Guimarães Scholarship should be submitted by completing the application form, which will be shared with the students. The application must include, in a single PDF document:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Proof of enrollment in one of Nova SBE’s Bachelor’s programs
  • Identity Card/Citizen Card/Passport
  • Cover letter,
  • A video of up to 3 minutes explaining your motivations for obtaining the scholarship, with the following content:

- Tell us who you are
- Why do you want this scholarship?
- What will you do with this opportunity?
- How do you intend to give back to society?

  • ​Proof of economic situation - Proof of submission of IRS Model 3 and IRS assessment note for the previous fiscal year.


Applications for the 2024/25 academic year will run from October 7 to October 28, 2024.

The Rodrigo Guimarães Erasmus Scholarship aims to empower students to embrace the opportunities for personal and academic growth that come with international exchange. With the support of the Rodrigo Guimarães Erasmus Scholarship, students can embark on their journey with confidence, knowing that they have the necessary resources to make the most of their Erasmus experience.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must:

  • Be enrolled in the 1st year of the Bachelor's programs in Management or Economics at Nova SBE.
  • Be registered in a minimum of 28 ECTS
  • Have applied for an exchange programme under the Erasmus + programme;
  • Hold a scholarship granted under the Erasmus + progamme
  • Must have a GPA of access to Higher Education equal or above 15 values

Value

The Rodrigo Guimarães Erasmus Scholarship has an annual value of € 3 400, for the duration of the Erasmus programme.

Application

The application for the Rodrigo Guimarães Scholarship should be submitted by completing the application form, which will be shared with the students. The application must include, in a single PDF document

  • Curriculum vitae; 
  • Proof of enrollment in one of Nova SBE’s Bachelor’s programs; 
  • Identity Card/Citizen Card/Passport; 
  • Cover letter,

  • Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria for scholarships from the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) must provide proof of their application. 


Applications for the 2023/24 academic year will be open from February 19 to March 19, 2024

Focused on our commitment to inclusion, Nova SBE and NIDO have established a partnership aimed to support a displaced Bachelor's student facing financial constraints by offering them the full NIDO experience and accommodation for one year at no extra cost. 

The support package offered by NIDO will include a studio room until August 2025, a set of bed linen and kitchen utensils on arrival, and scheduled meetings with the residence team to ensure that the selected student is adjusting to academic life. Learn more.

Eligibility 

Eligible for this scholarship are students who: 

  • Are enrolled in one of Nova SBE's Bachelor’s programs
  • Are national citizens:

∘ Nationals of European Union member states with the right of permanent residence in Portugal or their family members (under the terms of Law no. 37/2006, of August 9).

  • Nationals of third countries:

∘ Holders of a permanent residence permit (under the terms of article 80 of Law no. 23/2007, of July 4).
∘ Beneficiaries of long-term resident status (under the terms of article 125 of Law no. 23/2007, of July 4).

  • Are displaced students, as demonstrated by their fiscal address
  • Have a gross annual per capita household income, based on the IRS declaration from the previous fiscal year, which fits in one of the tiers contemplated in the form in the Regulation on Scholarships for Access to Study Cycles.


Application 

Applications are ranked according to the following criteria:

  • Per capita income, from lowest to highest
  • Distance from their household
  • Academic performance


The only important condition is that you will need to be a Resident Ambassador, staying "on call" from 8.00 pm to 9.00 am Monday to Friday, and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. Your role will be to respond to urgent needs from residents, such as unlocking doors, managing alarms, and assisting with check-ins and check-outs. The position will be divided into shifts, and you will have approximately 10 hours of work per week.

Despite this, you are free to study, watch TV, or socialize, as long as you remain in the residence during your shift to respond when called via phone. You can find more information about becoming a Student Ambassador here

Under the “Civic and Global” project, within the scope of the funding obtained through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR – Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência) - “Qualifications and Skills” Component,  this program represents an opportunity to support students in upgrading or updating their skills as part of the degree programs at Nova School of Business & Economics.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the “Impulso Adultos” Scholarship program, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have turned 18 years old by the date of enrolment in the programs for which there is provision for awarding scholarships under the financing obtained through the RRP
  • Hold a residence or valid residence permit in Portugal, temporary or permanent, and a Tax ID Number (NIF).
  • Must not be covered by any other similar scholarship or incentive, nor have previously benefited from an incentive scholarship awarded under the "Impulso Adultos"


Value

Each scholarship has a value of € 450.

Application

Candidates must apply for PRR Scholarship at the time of their application by filling the application form used for this purpose during the defined application period, and must submit the respective documents:

  • Copy of Identification Document (Identity Card/Citizen Card/Passport);
  • Updated curriculum vitae;
  • Proof of residence in Portugal;
  • Proof of enrollment in one of Nova SBE's degree programs;
  • Proof of previous university attendance, if applicable;
  • Declaration of unemployment, if applicable, documented by registration in a Job Center or Social Security declaration.

Applications are open between May 6 to 30, 2024.

 

Other Scholarships

The Portuguese Government provides financial support to students in need. The funds are provided by DGES (Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior/ Higher-Directorate for Higher Education) and administrated by SASNOVA (Serviços de Ação Social da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa/ Social Action Services). These scholarships are to students in the first and second cycles at NOVA University Lisbon, intending to make it possible for students with reduced financial abilities to begin and continue their studies.

Merit scholarships are awarded by Public and Private Higher Education establishments to students with exceptional performance, regardless of their income, according to the Regulation for the Attribution of Merit Scholarships to Students of Higher Education Institutions.

Nova Junior Consulting, a Nova SBE student-run consulting firm dedicated to providing strategic consulting services, decided to establish a scholarship to help Nova SBE Bachelor’s students.

The NJC Scholarship is aimed at Nova SBE Bachelor’s students with exceptional performance, regardless of their income, and offers a 33 % tuition fee reduction and learning sessions, networking opportunities with the club’s partners, and personalized help with their careers.

Elegibility:

All first year Bachelor’s students are eligible for this scholarship.

Applications:

From November 28 to December 30, 2022.

The CMA Scholarship allows high-achieving students to complete the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) program at no cost.

Each year, Nova SBE and IMA (Institute of Management Accountants) will make available five scholarships that cover the costs of the CMA® program. These scholarships are available for Nova SBE Master's in Finance students. However, Bachelor’s students or students from the Master’s in Management may also apply. To support talented students with high academic performance and financial constraints who are enrolled in their first year of a Bachelor’s program, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation created the Gulbenkian Merit Scholarships, promoting an equal society and supporting talented students. For further information, please visit this page.  

The Duarte Tarré Foundation awards scholarships each year to promote the social integration of young students, aged between 18 and 25 years old, who are living in Portugal and are enrolled in a Higher Education institution and have proven financial constraints to promote their educational and professional development.

The Municipality of Cascais has prioritized the investment in social policies to promote education, teaching and vocational training of young people in the municipality.

Thus, the Municipality of Cascais intends to promote the Scholarship Program for Higher Education Students residing in the municipality.

This program aims to provide economic aid to students who wish to pursue their academic education and enter higher education, by awarding scholarships that contribute towards the education costs of students with fewer financial resources, thus contributing to facilitating access to quality higher education.

Awards

Kearney, a global management consulting firm, in partnership with Nova SBE, aims to recognize the best student in Finance by giving, each semester, the Kearney Excellence Award.

Value

The prize has a value of 1000€, given to one student per semester.

Eligibility

All students enrolled in the Finance course of a Bachelor’s program are automatically eligible for the prize, except for the ones who already passed the course and are improving their grade. An application is not necessary.

Created in 1995 by Professor Aníbal Cavaco Silva, the Democracy & Development Award recognizes the student with the best final GPA for the Bachelor’s in Economics.

Value

The award has a value of 1500€.

In a mission to distinguish the academic merit of Nova SBE students, the Amélia de Mello Foundation awards each year the Amélia de Mello Foundation Award to the student with the best final GPA for the Bachelor’s in Management.
