The Alfredo de Sousa Foundation is a private Foundation with a key role for Nova SBE, because of its contribution to the construction of the new campus, and making sure that the school is run with an ever-growing dynamic approach.

The Foundation represents the forging of academic strength, strong partnerships, and engagement with the world.

The living memory of Alfredo de Sousa will keep on inspiring us through the Foundation, which will allow us to connect powerful minds and enforce diversity of ideas.

Alfredo de Sousa. A man ahead of his time

Alfredo de Sousa was the founder of Nova School of Business & Economics, its first Dean, and an influential Portuguese economist.

Early years

Early years
- Born in 1931, Alfredo de Sousa (1931-1994) graduated from ‘Instituto Superior de Ciências Económicas e Financeiras’ being recognized as the best student of his year.

60's

1964
- He undertook his Ph.D. at the University of Paris and joined the university as an associate professor, publishing 15 articles and 14 reviews during that period.

70's

From 1972 to 1994
- Lectured at the most notable institutions of Economics and Management in Lisbon. Referred as a unique personality by his peers, he was also actively engaged in politics and was a consultant in diverse projects.

1977
- Founded Nova School of Business & Economics and was its Dean and Professor.

80's

1980
- Launched the first leading MBA program in Portugal. His critical and innovative approach to education shaped Nova School of Business & Economics’ beliefs. His vision unquestionably changed the course of Economics and Management education in Portugal.

On September 27th, 2016, we undersigned a pledge of commitment, in which we bore witness to the laying of the foundation stone of the new campus of Nova School of Business & Economics.
