Pedro Pita Barros (Nova SBE: Fundação "la Caixa" Chair Professor in Health Economics) and Carolina Santos (Nova SBE: researcher) from Nova SBE Health Economics & Management (NHEM) open the discussion to analyze the most pressing topics in the healthcare field in response to the proposals presented in the 2024 State Budget. The presentation proposes a shared vision for the healthcare sector and promotes open and inclusive dialogue about the challenges in the healthcare sector in Portugal.

Pedro Pita Barros is a Chair Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and the coordinator of the Nova SBE Health Economics & Management Knowledge Center (NHEM). He holds the BPI | Fundação la Caixa Chair in Health Economics, in recognition of his work in the field of health economics. This recognition is evident through his participation in the Expert Panel on Effective Ways of Investing in Health for the European Commission, as well as his contributions to the Mission Board for Cancer, the National Health Council, and the National Council of Ethics for the Life Sciences.

Carolina Santos is a researcher in Health Economics at Nova SBE, where she obtained her Ph.D. in Economics. She has teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has also worked as a consultant in the field of health technology assessment.
