Observatório da Despesa em Saúde published the report “Seguros de saúde privados no sistema de saúde português: mitos e factos”, by Pedro Pita Barros and Eduardo Costa. This report points out that the number of protection policies for disease significantly increased – from 14%, in 2000, to 32%, in 2021. Despite this fact, of the total expenditure on health care only 4% is covered by private health insurance. The report was mentioned in an article in the Expresso newspaper.
