António Vicente in an official at the European Commission. Currently he is head of the political team and deputy head of the Commission Representation in Portugal. Prior to that, he was a member of the Commission team under chief negotiator Michel Barnier, for the post-Brexit relationship (negotiator for climate & environmental issues). António joined the Commission in 2014 as head of cabinet of the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, and in that capacity participated in the weekly meetings that prepared all key decisions under the Juncker Commission (2014-2019) and helped shape and negotiate Horizon Europe, the EU fund for science and innovation. From 2011 to 2014, António was the chief of staff of the Secretary of State to the Prime Minister Carlos Moedas, where he helped create and lead the team that served as the interface between the Portuguese government and the EC, ECB, IMF “troika” during the Portuguese adjustment programme. António holds a Masters in Economics from Nova SBE and a M.Sc. in Political Theory from the London School of Economics.
