For the last six years, the Faculty Council, led by Miguel Pina e Cunha, President of the Scientific Council, contributed to the development of Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE), making it a global school. For the new mandate, Nova SBE has the pleasure to announce and welcome the new President of the Faculty Council, Miguel Ferreira.

Under the leadership of Miguel Pina e Cunha, Nova SBE increased the level of knowledge production, transfer, and dissemination, the level of internationalization of its faculty members, the number and quality of its academic programs and the recruitment of talented and internationally experienced faculty. To promote the development of its three academic – areas, economics, finance and management –, the Faculty Council developed an intensive recruitment program and supported the school in the creation and development of Knowledge Centers and other faculty initiatives that integrate fundamental and applied research. It also approved a performance management system and a research incentives scheme to promote the quality of research, teaching, and community engagement.

The scientific output during 2012 – 2018 was notorious for the publishing of 563 peer-reviewed papers and over 40 books and 110 book chapters. The Research Unit organized more than 50 research events and 400 seminars, promoting knowledge exchange with top international researchers. It also contributed extensively to the scientific training of young students, with over 100 research assistants hired to work in research projects. The Knowledge Centers’ projects involved several dozen Master’s and Ph.D. candidates, contributing to the development of science with an impactful, cross-fertilizing applied and fundamental research, academic programs and executive education.

There are not enough words to acknowledge Miguel Pina e Cunha for all these accomplishments and his contribution to the Faculty Council and the entire Nova SBE community.

For the new mandate, Nova SBE hereby announces and welcomes the new President of the Scientific Council, Miguel Ferreira. For his term, he designated four priorities: the effective recruitment and development of faculty to promote growth in the school’s strategic areas and the development of interdisciplinary knowledge; an efficient communication strategy for the research office in order to improve the connection of science and society and report on impact; the attraction and diversification of research funding; the efficiency and quality of the support services for faculty and researchers.
