Academic Information

Classes

All programs have classes on-campus unless there are specific situations where the health of the community is compromised. Some have part of the classes online, and the models vary depending on the program and the course. Streaming of classes will be available until the end of the semester, for all students. For more information, please see the Back to Campus Guide and the courses’ syllabi. The only situation where all classes will fully be resumed online is in case of a new full lockdown and/or by the government or health authorities’ imposition.

All exams and other evaluation moments are expected to take place on campus, in person. Students in special circumstances will be able to request permission for alternatives from the Pedagogical Council.

The size of the sections has been adapted to the classrooms’ revised capacity. The course’s offer has been adapted to maintain capacity by increasing the number of sections and adapting the teaching models.

Students must keep faculty informed of any exceptional situations.

Given the level of uncertainty, we strongly discourage students from traveling during the semester.

Teaching Models by Program

Generally, all courses of the Bachelor's programs are delivered in a hybrid model of remote and in-person classes. Information about the specific model that each course follows is available in the courses' Syllabus available on Moodle.

The Master's in Economics and the Master’s in Business Analytics have all classes of both mandatory and elective courses taught on-campus. The Master’s in Finance and Master’s in Management, both regular and international programs, are taught in a blended format. All elective courses are taught on-campus, except for the Financial Statement Analysis course. In the course's Syllabus, each professor guides students through the sequence of materials and sessions.

All class activities for the PhD programs will be held on-campus.

Navigating through new teaching models

iLearn @ Nova SBE

This special year, the school created a platform to support students in their learning journey at Nova SBE. iLearn is where you can find all the hacks, advice, guidelines, and resources to help you succeed in the new learning environment.

  • On the Productivity and Self-care page, you'll find complete tips on how to be a successful learner
  • On the Apps, Tools & Guides page, you'll find all the apps, tools, and guides to help you along the way, each with its respective scopes/use, case, and tutorials;
  • On the Connect page, you will find all information about the power of belonging to a community. You will also learn how to connect with your peers and course instructors, and you will find quick links to access fun social activities.

Tuition & Fees

The program fees remain the same. Nova SBE has developed all the necessary efforts to ensure students can progress with their studies in the best possible conditions, given the current pandemic. We are incurring high costs and investments to adapt to this reality and improve students' learning experience.

Groupwork

Groupwork

We strongly recommend students to plan workgroups to take place online, on Teams /Zoom to comply with social distancing and with the campus’ regulations. If you need more information on how to use these tools, please check the iLearn platform.

Exams

Exams

Generally, all exams for the Bachelor's and Master's programs are held on campus in 2020/21, unless there is a lockdown with specific instructions to close the school. Students will have to go to campus to take their exams. Exams online are a possibility for students in exceptional circumstances, like illness or quarantine, which must be dully justified. The Academic Services have a Special Requests team that helps students with this process.

Thesis & Work Projects

Thesis & Work Projects

Work Project presentations/thesis defenses are all online.

Faculty Office hours

Faculty Office Hours are meant to fully take place online, both for faculty and Teaching Assistants.

Nova SBE events

Nova SBE has decided to postpone the graduation ceremonies scheduled for November 2020 and January 2021. This is a very special moment for our graduates and their families and also for our faculty, staff, and partners. It wouldn’t be possible to experience them fully while complying with the current health and safety restrictions. For that reason, alongside the graduates, the Nova SBE Students’ Union, and Student Representatives, the school decided to postpone them. New dates will be announced when possible.

The study trips will depend on how the pandemic situation evolves globally. Nova SBE will always follow the guidelines from the national health authorities and NOVA University Lisbon. All the Fall semester’s study trips were canceled.

The Spring edition of the Nova SBE Career Fair, similar to the Fall edition, will take place online using specific software for that purpose.

Exchange programs/international mobility

The outgoing exchange programs, from Nova SBE to other schools, depend on the partner schools’ decisions and how the pandemic evolves in their countries. Nova SBE is in close contact with all partner schools and will inform students of any changes that may occur regarding their situation. Contact the International Mobility team for more details:
