General eligibility criteria

  • Candidates fromwith a strong quantitative background. However, if you have limited quantitative skills you may need to complete bridging courses in August.
  • Professional experience is NOT a requirement to be admitted.
  • This program is pre-experience and we would prefer to receive applications from candidates with less than two years’ professional experience and below or equal 26 years of age. However, we will consider older applicants who present a similar pre-experience profile.
  • The working language of Nova SBE is English. No knowledge of Portuguese is necessary for the purposes of life on campus. However, we strongly recommend students possess the following level of English language competency prior to commencing their studies: B2 (Upper Intermediate).

Eligibility criteria for the International Master's in Finance

Admission Requirements (upon application)

  • English language at minimum C1 level (or as mother tongue);

  • Second language and a third (if English is not the mother tongue) at minimum A2 level (or mother tongue);

Requirements to graduate as International Master's

  • English at minimum C1 level (or as mother tongue);

  • Second language and a third (if English is not the mother tongue) at minimum B1 level (or mother tongue);

  • Have completed a minimum of one of the following activities at the end of the second semester, or be able to provide proof that the requirements will be completed before the conclusion of the program:

  1. International Exchange Semester outside Portugal and outside the country where the Bachelor’s degree was obtained;

  2. Or a 10-week international internship outside of Portugal, and outside of the country of birth of the student;

  3. Or enrollment and completion of a CEMS or Double Degree.

Failure to reach these requirements by the end of the second semester will result in the student being transferred onto the regular Master’s degree program.
The standard duration of the International Master's in Finance is three terms — two academic semesters and an additional term for completing the thesis.

Now, let’s take it step by step

Applications will open on January 8 until May 15, 2020, in order to start the Master's by early September 2020. 
Applications for Double Degree will run from January until March 2020.

Candidates will receive an answer by email within a maximum of 8-weeks from application submission.

Confirmation of enrolment will be subject to presentation of an official graduation certificate within the first month of classes.

  • Portrait/ ID photo
  • Copy of ID card
  • Curriculum Vitae (in English)
  • Grade transcript with full list course list and grades
  • Motivation letter/cover letter in English
  • English certificate with minimum level of B2 – recommended for the Master's in Finance | English certificate with minimum level of C1 - mandatory for the International Master's in Finance
  • Second foreign language certificate (mandatory for International Master’s in Finance)
  • Application fee payment receipt (non-refundable fee of 51€ for all applicants)
  • Any other documents in English that you think may enrich your application, such as a international mobility proof, reference letter, language certificates and/or GMAT/GRE
  • Additional application form (for Double Degree candidates only)

If the diploma is not in Portuguese/English, applicants should attach the diploma supplement or the official transcript of records in English with the entire academic background: degree, final GPA, graduation date.

If the Diploma/Certificate does not have the above mentioned elements, applicants must send:

  • Or the Diploma Supplement or the Official Transcript of records in English

  • Or certified translation of the Diploma/Certificate

Step One — Online application
The admissions process starts upon submission of the online application along with the relevant documents. Confirmation of enrolment will be subject to presentation of an official graduation certificate within the first month of classes.

Step Two — Interview
General Admission:
Candidates may have to attend a Skype interview with either Alumni or faculty designed to examine the information provided in the application and evaluate the applicant’s eligibility and suitability for the program.

Double Degree: Candidates already accepted into a Nova SBE Master’s program and successfully pre-screened are invited to an interview in March, April and May.

CEMS MIM:  Candidates accepted into a Nova SBE Master’s program and successfully pre-screened are invited to an assessment designed to evaluate academic potential, international orientation, and communication skills.

Step Three — Decision
Following the application review, the Admissions Committee will make its final decision based on all information available. Selection decisions will be made in rounds/periods: end of February, end of March, end of April and end of May.  

Decisions will be communicated by email. 

Candidates are responsible for checking their email account for school messages (including the spam or junk folders). In the event of no contact from the school, candidates should email or call the Student Recruitment and Admissions Office. When accepted, if candidates don’t confirm their commitment to be in the program, these slots will be considered vacant for the next selection round.

Step Four — Enrolment
Accepted candidates will have to pay a 1000€ non-refundable enrolment fee, to be deducted from the total tuition fee. 

No exceptions or late payments will be accepted.

Enrolment in the Double Degree and CEMS MIM programs becomes effective after payment of an additional 1500€ non-refundable fee, to be deducted from the total tuition fee.

Admitted students can defer for up to one year. They must inform the school until the enrolment fee payment deadline, pay the enrolment fee and each case, in order to be accepted, will be subject to analysis by the Student Recruitmet & Admissions Office. Not respecting this deadline or making an unsuccessful request to defer will require submission of a new application.
The defer may be subject to a re-entry fee.
