José Crespo de Carvalho is Full Professor of Operations Management at NOVA School of Business and Economics. Additionally he is the Academic Director of the Executive Education at NOVA FORUM.
José Crespo de Carvalho spent some years in companies, as director or member of the board, and developed, as a free-lancer or associated with consultancy companies, several consultancy projects both to national and multinational companies as well as public bodies. His experience in managing and teaching at the executive level was, in parallel with his presence in companies, keen in his career.
He was member of the board at Caixa Geral de Depósitos "“ the largest Portuguese Bank, having been President of the Risk Commission and Member of the Strategic and Governance Commission.
José Crespo de Carvalho has a background in engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, a post-graduation in Project Management (also from IST), an MBA and an MSc in Management Information Systems and a PhD and Aggregation in Management (ISCTE "“ IUL). He has additional education, mainly in executive areas, from Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, AIF, INSEAD and Cranfield University.
He published in several journals and also in books, having 25 ISBN published books. He is the author of many scholarly and widespread articles and case studies on the challenges and opportunities facing organizations today.
Prior to joining Nova SBE he was Full Professor at ISCTE-IUL where he received more than 30 teaching awards as best professor in post-graduate programs, master programs, executive master programs and at the EMBA program.
His areas of interest are: Operations Management, specifically Supply Chain Management and SC Strategy, and Strategy (both Corporate level Strategy and Competitive/Firm level Strategy).
