Are boys and girls assessed differently? - podcast from TSF
News | 11 November 2022 Are boys and girls assessed differently? - podcast from TSF

Girls tend to outscore boys in academic achievement, according to international and national data. And the latest PISA results seem to confirm the stereotype that girls have better grades in fields that require more reading skills and boys in Science and Mathematics. Pedro Freitas, a researcher from our Center, looked further into these findings alongside Nuno Crato, during the podcast "Educar tem Ciência" (There's Science in Education) from TSF - a Portuguese radio station.

This episode explored possible explanations for the fact that girls have better grades in assessment made by their teachers and boys in national exams; reasons why girls are not as likely to enroll in higher education degrees in the STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and strategies to ensure the most impartial assessment method for both genders and to widen their educational horizons.
