The Nova SBE Economics of Education Knowledge Center has just published and presented a study that found that Portuguese public education system will need over 34,000 new teachers over the next ten years. These projections for the 850 schools in mainland Portugal  across different subjects and years are mainly driven by the significant share of teachers, around 40%, who will retire during this period, as well as the first detailed study on teacher shortages in Portugal. This study, developed in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Statistics of Education and Science, was cited in several national media, namely Correio da Manhã, Observador, Público, Rádio Renascença, RTP, Diário de Notícias, Expresso, Visão, SIC, Antena 1, TSF and TVI.
