Before, inequality was studied, but it was more from a reporting perspective than an investigative perspective, says Susana Peralta. But the quality of things that can be done today, relating inequality results not only concerning income but also risky behaviors, health, life expectancy, etc. again allowed inequality to be an advanced and recognized research topic. José Tavares added that the biggest development in economic science, in the last decade, was the progressive incorporation of behavioral elements, some imported from psychology, in its instrumental aspect, others developed by economic science itselfImportant because a more mechanistic, limited view of human behavior has been put into perspective. José Tavares also mentioned the integration of surprises and idiosyncrasies of human behavior which affect markets and societies.
