João Baptista has dual appointment as Visiting Professor at Nova SBE and Full Professor at Lancaster University, Chair in Information Systems. Previously he was at 16 years at the Warwick Business School, and prior to that at the London School of Economics, where he completed his PhD and MSc. His research and teaching focuses on the digital transformation of work and the workplace in modern organisations, with a particular emphasis on capturing the emergence and dynamic interplay between technology and new capabilities, policy and structures in organisations. He publishes his research in information systems, strategy and organisation studies, and recently edited a special issue of the Journal of Strategic Information Systems on digital working and organisational transformation. He is founder of the SIG Changing Nature of Work of the AIS, and convenes this group annually at the ICIS conference. Prior to academic career João worked in industry as Director of New Technologies for the Conservative Party, and at Tranquilidade insurance leading the implementation of new digital channels and for two years at the World Expo 98 in Portugal managing ticketing and merchandising operations.
